Iran is set to name a Book Capital City for the third time.
Over 100 Iranian cities have applied for the title by submitting ideas and plans to promote the culture of reading.
This year’s competition has seen a considerable rise in both the quantity and the quality of submitted plans.
The evaluation will take place in two stages and a winner will be eventually announced as the Book Capital City of Iran.
Inspired by the UNESCO World Book Capital program, each year Iran introduces a city as the country’s Book Capital.
Iran’s plan to select a book capital annually was launched in 2014 in a collaboration between the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
Neyshabur and Ahvaz were chosen as Iran’s Book Capital Cities in previous years.
